Procrastination is a Thief of Time!

Many moons ago, I created this portfolio page, and promised myself to post often. If you're coming from LinkedIn, I have promised a few posts, which I'm yet to deliver. I know 🤫

Well, I've been up to some few things, which I'll share in this post.

I have read this piece many times, and I humbly accept that I am a procrastinator (matters making updates here). Maybe the panic monster has finally come rushing and screaming all lungs out!

New year resolution(s)

Just do it!

You probably came expecting a list. I know, quite disappointing. However, I am of the opinion that this suffices. We should only endeavour to complete whatever we set to do.

It's alright to have a list of things in waiting, but setting hard timelines and deadlines can be counterproductive at times. Why not focus on completion, and perhaps be lucky and do it way ahead of time?

Also, things do change along the way and some readjusting comes in handy. This is the context behind my reasoning, we'll see how that goes.

Past Year Reflection(s)

It happened as it should.

In the same breath as above, nothing can be undone, with regards to what's done. One can only extract value out of lessons learned and implement the learnings to better their future, and avoid any pitfalls they may have encountered.

Enough Yapping, what have you been up to?

Go ahead, reflect on what you have been up to.

Done?

Here's my account:

For those reading my rumblings for the first time, you can refer to this post for further context.

Going forward I'll endeavour as much as possible to make my posts modular. I reckon it might prove a challenge at times, as this is an interconnected journey. So, should you stumble upon a post and get slightly lost, bear with me.

In the building of my final portfolio project, I caught myself, albeit in surprise, enjoying plenty of front-end development (despite specializing in back-end).

While my designs are basic, at best. I relish the feel of writing code and seeing it come to life, visually.

Thus, I decided to delve further into front-end development, and I must admit, it has been an absolute pleasure.

I can proudly say I'm knee-deep in the waters of fullstack development.

What's to show for it?

Ahem! Not much, sincerely.

I have quite a number of atomic tasks, handled within that period, in practice of skills acquired. No full projects yet, that's what this year is for.

After all, you'll often hear many say that it is only when you begin building that you understand concepts fully. I volunteer to be a guinea fowl. I'll mess around and find out.

As an example, I recently automated the copyright section in the footer of this portfolio. Well it's not much, but it's honest work 🤭. Plus, I no longer have to remember to update it every year.

For Javascript guys, turns out it's actually quite easy

new Date().getFullYear();

A few changes in terms of the appearance of this portfolio page make it to the basket of achievements too.

What's next?

As you probably know, muscles do atrophy in absence of physical activity, amongst other factors. Something I have experienced first-hand in terms of my programming muscles. I have often struggled with concepts learned and practiced in the past.

I seek solace in the wise observation of David Dunning and Justin Kruger. For I know all too well the deepest section of the valley of despair. I am also humble enough to accept that perhaps I've not yet hit bottom.

What matters though, is my resolute resolve to climb the steep slope towards enlightenment. Come, join me on this journey, keep me accountable.
